Venusian Dusk
Susha Venugopal
India, residing in the UAE
Susha says: "The work is oil on paper. Inspiration for this painting
came after reading facts from previous space missions. I visualized Venus as
a planet with uneven surface, deep craters, mountains with lava flows and tried
to paint it as close to that as possible. Picturing it at dusk was not something
I had thought about but as the painting progressed, it seemed to lean towards
it! Since Venus is supposed to have a highly dense cloud cover, I had to make
sure the atmosphere came through quite dark with patches of light where solar
radiation manages to get through. I do think there is a strong potential for
the occurrence of lightning hence the inclusion of one!
"I am an Indian who has been a resident of Dubai for nearly 14years.
Painting has always been one of my hobbies but I owe this particular one to
my 5-year-old daughter Anushka who had made up her mind to enter the competition
herself but later insisted that I do too! My interest in space has actually
grown because of her, as she is extremely interested in astronomy and loves
to read anything related to this topic."
